The History of Mt. Nebo Baptist
How We Began…
Mt. Nebo Baptist Church was organized on January 12, 1907 at Liberty School House, when 17 church members from Sulphur Springs Baptist and 4 from Macedonia, met to present letters of their belief statements & their intention to start a church. A presbytery was assembled (notated below), & this presbytery declared those constituting this church to be orthodox.
The church name of ‘Mt. Nebo’ was chosen & it was declared to be a legally constituted Baptist church.
118 years later, the church still stands on it’s original site & continues to be a landmark in the area. Long gone are the days of circuit rider preachers, but vibrant are the days of faith and community!

Buildings, Additions, & Growth
· 1940 – Church building rebuilt
· 1952 – 4 sunday school rooms built
· 1967 – Entrance was changed with an addition of a vestibule, porch, & several concrete sidewalks
· 1973 – 2 more sunday school rooms added
· 1980 – Double glass doors were installed at the entrance of the church
· 1981 – new steeple installed
· 1985 – Construction of a fellowship hall began. Dedicated 3/30/1986.
· 1989 – New church sign installed
· 1990 – Bathrooms added to the entrance
· 1993 – Church interior remodeled & new carpet installed
· 1995 – Additional parking area paved
· 1998 – New sunday school building constructed with a breezeway to connect to the church, as well as an extension added to the fellowship hall
· 2002 – 2003 – New sanctuary constructed. Ceremony held 5/18/2003.
· 2006 – Eades Family Life Center multipurpose/gym complex built
